Private tax details sent out by mistake

Private details of 50000 people who claim tax credits have been posted out by mistake. The personal details of other claimants such as how much they earn and even bank sort codes were sent out with annual tax credit awards notice by HM Revenue and Customs (HMRC). If unexpected tax bills are putting a strain on your debt management an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) could help you free up some cash. A person with unsecured debts over £15000 can pay a more manageable monthly amount over a 5 year period before going debt free. It is a popular alternative to bankruptcy. A spokesperson for HMRC says “Unfortunately an error has occurred in one of the tax credits print runs causing some customer information to be wrongly formatted.” Corrected notices and apologies will be sent out to claimants this week and an investigation has been launched.”
