Anderston in Glasgow has been highlighted as having the highest level of debt in Scotland, with a fifth of all adults having debts of over £15000. People with these serious debt levels may wish to look into getting an Individual Voluntary Arrangement (IVA) to help with their debt management. Provided that the person taking on the IVA has a disposable income in excess of £200 and at least 3 creditors, they could be debt free in five years. Over this time, they would pay off manageable amounts each month and if any debt remains after this period, it can be written off. Market research group CACI placed Anderston at the top of its debt league, closely followed by Calton also in Glasgow where over 17 per cent (17.4 per cent) of adults owe more than £15000.
